Prepare Your Deck and Patio Ready for a Summer Barbecue

Summer vacation is fast approaching, and this only means two things; swimming in the pool, and bonding with your family while eating scrumptious food produced from barbecue grills. However, none of this is possible without the proper venue, and for most, this is the patio or the outdoor area in your property where you can dine, swap stories with your friends and relatives, or simply sit back and relax. To improve your patio and have your own luau, here are the things you can do.

Improving the View

A bare looking place does not promote relaxation at all. By decorating the area with plants, you can immediately evoke tranquility because of the soothing green color. The flowers will help beautify the patio, and the leaves will promote a cooler feeling that is suitable for the warm weather brought by summer. Aside from that, you can also decorate the place with tiles, statues, and fountains. Use your creativity and see where it can take you.

Deck and Patio Furniture’s

A deck is not complete without the right furniture’s. Comfortable chairs are essential because you will spend a lot of time in that area. The best part is you can easily purchase a complete deck set containing tables, lounge chairs, bars, and umbrellas online or on different stores. If you want, you can even go bespoke and have a set made according to your specification, design, and desired theme.

Your Very Own Luau

Instead of going to Hawaii or even an expensive restaurant for a feast, why not use the patio and have your own luau? This can be easily done by using barbecue grills to cook the perfect meal. Coupled with several drinks and entertainment, and you will have an unforgettable luau for the whole family without spending hundreds of dollars.

Summer is synonymous to fun in the sun and lounging on the patio while eating delicious food. With all the activities and stress that your family had to deal with, it is about time that you get to relax, and enjoy in your very own property. Start improving the patio now so you will be ready come summer time.

College Dorm Supplies

Getting everything together to outfit a dorm room can be a tremendous effort – when you actually look over the checklist of required college dorm supplies it can be somewhat daunting. Still, it’s best to begin with a list. Most colleges and universities have a standard issue document which outlines what sort of things they provide (beds and mattresses, desks, dressers, etc.) what items may be restricted or simply prohibited and what items are suggested. It’s best to cross-reference any list with some of the major bed and bath stores – simply look online and you will find most offer digital camp and college checklists.

A digital checklist is helpful for both parents and kids – the users can employ email and social networking sites to coordinate décor ideas, color schemes and budget and to share suggestions and work together on taking care of getting everything. You can also reach out to new roommates in order to coordinate and avoid duplication of essentials like lamps and area rugs.

Bedding is critically important and most dormitory settings feature beds with twin extra long, also known as twin XL, mattresses. If you own a set of standard twin sheets they will not fit a twin XL mattress; twin quilts and comforters will fine but you will need to invest in new sheeting. It’s a good idea to plan for two pillows – one foam and one feather or even a bean bag pillow; these are great for offering extra support while reading, texting or working on a laptop computer in bed.

Store spare sleeping supplies in bags which can be easily stowed under the bed or in a hamper; experts suggest three sets of sheets with one on the bed, one in the wash and one at the ready.

Understanding the Pros and Cons of Solid Wood Flooring

Solid wood flooring is sometimes a luxury that not everyone can afford, which is why so many people turn to the cheaper and just as stylish alternative, vinyl flooring. But is vinyl really a more cost effective option? After all, you pay for what you get with good quality flooring.

If you are considering solid wood and vinyl options for your home, it’s important to remember that it’s not just cost and quality to bear in mind; choosing the right flooring means understanding your lifestyle and what’s best for you and your property.

Before you make a decision, take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of choosing solid wood flooring.

Benefits of Solid Wood Flooring for the Home

  • Durability – solid wood flooring is an expensive investment but it will last you a lifetime with the right care and maintenance.  Although vinyl requires little care in terms of long term maintenance, it also does not last as long as solid wood.
  • A natural beauty – although the choice in vinyl design has increased over the years, very little can ever compete with the natural beauty of solid wood.
  • Give your home character – natural wood has so much character and even over time when it ages, the natural signs of wear and tear can give your home a look of character and style.

Disadvantages of Solid Wood Flooring

  • Hard to maintain – solid wood requires a lot of care. Vinyl can be maintained at a minimal level but wooden flooring needs regular cleaning, washing and polishing if you want it to remain looking as great as it did when you first installed it.
  • Expensive – wooden flooring can be very expensive if you have a large floor space to cover. If you are not intending to stay in your property for over 5 years, vinyl could be a better option. Even if you think wooden floors are an investment, the next buyer may not want wooden flooring at all so the injection of money could be pointless.

With both vinyl and wooden flooring, care needs to be taken on a daily basis as both are prone to damage with scuffs, marks and scratches. Over the years, even though damage on wood is irreversible, wooden flooring will prove to be much more durable and resilient than vinyl.

If you would like to find out what choices are available to you in both vinyl flooring and solid wood flooring, visit the www.ukflooringdirect.co.uk site here where you can get a full range of flooring options.

How to Clean Blinds

Blinds are one of the most important features in your home. They are often in an area that is the focal point of the home and it is very important to keep them clean. Dirty blinds can make a home seem untidy and unkempt even if the rest of the house is clean.

Cleaning blinds can be a very daunting task. They came in different sizes and materials and people can be unsure about how to clean them. Is this a job you can do yourself or do you have to order a cleaning service to have them specially cleaned? My answer to this would be that you can clean them yourself if you feel confident or you can contact your supplier and enquire into their cleaning service.

Cleaning Tips

It is a little known fact that you can clean any type of blind with your vacuum cleaner. All you have to do is use the brush attachment that is supplied with the vacuum and run over each slat individually. This will remove dust and excess dirt.

The Sock Approach

This is like an ‘old wives’ tip for cleaning blinds. The advantages to using this method are that it is low cost, can be used on most surfaces and it doesn’t include using harmful chemicals. You put an old sock on your hand, dip it in white vinegar and then slide the sock across each slat. The dust on the blinds will stick to the sock. Please consult the user manual to that came with the blinds, to make sure that vinegar won’t harm them.

Bathtub

You can clean each slat individually by putting each one in a bath filled with water and mild dish soap. If you use this method, remember to vacuum the blinds first to remove the excess dust. Then you can gently towel dry the blinds and hang them back up. Be aware that this method is not to be used on wooden blinds as it will damage them.
