Safety First

Safety in the home starts with prevention. Especially when you have children, making furniture and other household items secure is top priority. Statistics show that one of the leading causes of injuries to children are heavy items, such as furniture, being pulled over on a child. There are many things you can do to improve your home, but the most important place to start is with unstable furniture and household appliances.

Using products such as non-skid levelers to keep furniture from moving or toppling is vital in accident prevention. From dining room tables to dressers, applying this simple fix-it technique, takes very little time and is extremely affordable. Not to mention, having kids of my own, how annoying it is to have to rearrange furniture every single day! I’ve used these non-skid levelers and not only do they keep furniture in place, I don’t have to worry about my 1 year old using it for balance, I know it is safe.

For heavier items like armoires and hutches, consider anchoring these items to studs in the wall. I can not count the number of times that I have walked in on my son standing in a chair, trying to reach for a book on the shelf that was not properly anchored. After I was able to grab him in time and get control of my breathing, I went to our near-by home improvement store and purchased multiple wall anchors to ensure that these hefty items would not fall over on top of my daring little boy!

For a few dollars and literally a few minutes, I no longer have to worry about my child in my own home (not to mention other children that come over to visit!)

Don’t wait for an accident to happen, there is no better way to home improvement than through safety and making sure that you and your family is safe and that all avoidable accidents are being prevented.
